Hailey Bieber is done addressing the rumoured feud that has followed her and Selena Gomez for over a decade. The Rhode Beauty founder told WSJ. Magazine that she never asked to be compared, insisting the ongoing drama is a creation of the internet rather than reality.

“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” she said in the Innovators Issue, published on 14 October. The timing of her remarks was hard to miss, the interview came just hours before Rhode’s launch at Sephora, where Gomez’s Rare Beauty line is also sold.

The two women have been linked since their teenage years through Justin Bieber, who dated Gomez on and off from 2011 until 2017 before marrying Hailey in 2018. Fans have continuously compared the two, fuelling one of pop culture’s longest-running celebrity narratives. Hailey, now 28, said she has tried to move on. “When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that,” she added.

Gomez, now 33 and recently married to producer Benny Blanco, has also spoken about wanting peace. The pair even posed together at the Academy Museum Gala in 2022 to show unity, but the rivalry narrative refused to die. In 2023, Hailey called fan theories “vile” and “disgusting,” warning that they could become “really dangerous.”

She and Justin welcomed their first child, Jack Blues, in August 2024. Still, Hailey said the chatter hasn’t stopped. Speaking to Vogue earlier this year, she admitted, “You would think after having a child, people would maybe move on, chill out a little bit, but no. So I guess these bitches are going to be mad.”

Hailey’s latest comments mark another attempt to close the book on a saga that began when both women were teenagers and has stretched across social media generations. Whether fans finally let it go remains to be seen, but the model’s message is clear, she’s over it.
