The Inbetweeners, the iconic British teen comedy series, is preparing to make a comeback after a deal between the original creators and Banijay U.K. The agreement, struck with Fudge Park Productions—founded by Iain Morris and Damon Beesley—signals a potential revival of the beloved show, though details about its format and platform remain undisclosed.
The series, which originally aired on E4 from 2008 to 2010, followed the awkward and often hilarious lives of four high school friends: Will MacKenzie (Simon Bird), Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas), Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison), and Jay Cartwright (James Buckley). Set in the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive, The Inbetweeners became renowned for its crude humor, awkward social encounters, and its portrayal of British adolescent life, offering a stark contrast to other teen dramas like Skins. The show’s authenticity and humor resonated with viewers, making it one of the most successful British comedies of the late 2000s.
Over its three seasons, The Inbetweeners broke records on E4 and garnered numerous awards. Its success was further cemented with two feature films released in 2011 and 2014, both of which shattered box office records, with the first film achieving the highest opening weekend for a UK comedy at the time.
The new deal with Banijay UK, which took over distribution rights following Banijay's acquisition of Zodiak Media in 2016, opens up fresh possibilities for The Inbetweeners. The creators have hinted that the revival may center on the original characters and appeal to both nostalgic fans and new audiences.
Jonathan Blyth, Managing Director of Fudge Park Productions, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that they are "plotting more adventures for our four favorite friends." Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, praised the creators’ "infectious creative vision" for the future of the franchise.
Since the series ended, Morris and Beesley have worked on various projects, with Morris collaborating on the Apple series Time Bandits and Beesley creating White Gold, a series featuring the Inbetweeners cast.
