Google has started offering Pakistani students one year of free access to its premium artificial intelligence service, Gemini AI Pro, in a move that brings cutting-edge AI tools directly into local classrooms and universities.

Pakistan now appears on Google’s official list of countries where Google AI Plus is available. The rollout mirrors similar student offers launched in other regions, allowing verified students aged 18 and above to activate the plan at no cost for a full year.

How to activate the offer

Students can sign in through the Gemini for Students or Google AI Pro page and verify their student credentials to unlock the plan. Once verified, they gain access to Gemini 2.5 Pro features such as Deep Research, integration with Google Workspace apps including Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail and Meet, and tools like NotebookLM and Flow. The package also includes 2TB of cloud storage for Drive and Photos.

I completed the verification process and received the active subscription, this proves the system is functioning in Pakistan.

Transforming how students learn

The free Gemini Pro plan could change how students in Pakistan conduct research, complete assignments and collaborate on projects. With AI tools now integrated directly into Google’s productivity apps, users can draft essays, summarise research, design presentations and organise coursework more efficiently.

AI-assisted research through Deep Research allows students to explore topics more comprehensively, summarise key readings and even develop arguments or outlines based on credible web sources. This could particularly benefit learners in social sciences, engineering, business and media studies, where time-intensive projects often strain limited resources.

For creative and technical students, Gemini’s generative tools provide new ways to experiment with video, imagery and design levelling the playing field for those without access to premium creative software. The additional 2TB of storage also makes it easier for students to manage large files, group projects and research data securely online.

Broader impact on education

By extending Gemini Pro access to Pakistan, Google is making advanced AI resources available to thousands of students who might otherwise struggle to afford them. The initiative is likely to accelerate the adoption of AI in universities, encourage local innovation and help students build essential digital skills for the global job market.

This offer also lowers the cost barrier to exploring AI-assisted learning, giving students hands-on experience with technologies that are rapidly reshaping education and work. For now, the free plan remains a limited-time opportunity, but one that could have a lasting impact on how Pakistan’s youth learns, researches and creates.
