PESHAWAR:

The administration of Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) Peshawar has introduced a new identification policy that will come into effect from October 1, making it compulsory for all patients and their attendants to present valid identification documents before availing hospital services.

Under the new system, Pakistani citizens will be required to bring their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), while children must be registered with a Form-B. For Afghan nationals, treatment will only be provided upon submission of either a passport or an Afghan registration card, ensuring that their medical records are properly maintained.

According to the hospital administration, the policy will apply across all departments, including OPD registration, emergency care, admissions, laboratory tests, radiology services, and Sehat Card facilities. Officials stated that the move is part of the hospital's efforts to fully operationalize its Health Management Information System (HMIS), a digital platform designed to streamline medical recordkeeping.

The HMIS will store comprehensive patient information, including medical histories, laboratory and radiology reports, and Sehat Card treatment data, all in one centralized and secure database. Doctors will be able to access this information instantly, allowing for faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment, while patients will no longer need to carry bulky files during repeated visits.

Hospital officials emphasized that the initiative is aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and convenience, while also aligning hospital operations with international healthcare standards. They added that maintaining accurate digital records will not only benefit individual patients but also help improve long-term healthcare planning.

The KTH administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with the new system by carrying the required identification documents when visiting the hospital.

"This policy is for the facilitation of patients and the improvement of hospital services," an official said.
