The Super Mario Galaxy movie is widely expected to introduce Rosalina, but viral images circulating online of the character’s supposed film design have been confirmed as fan-made rather than official.
The first Super Mario Bros. Movie hinted at the Galaxy storyline through references including Princess Peach’s remark about “lots of galaxies out there”, the presence of Luma, and the Galaxy storybook. With a sequel now confirmed for April 2026, Rosalina’s appearance has been strongly anticipated by fans.
Recently, images claimed to be leaks of Rosalina’s design gained traction across social media, with one video on X/Twitter surpassing three million views. However, creators have since clarified that the artwork is not connected to the film.
One 3D artist, Awesome3D, noted that certain Mario renders were edited versions of their existing work. Another creator, Avovet3D, initially claimed responsibility for the Rosalina design before retracting the statement.
The actual source was later identified as online artist DahJuanPa, who explained that he had taken an existing Rosalina render and used AI tools to generate different facial expressions. “I hope Nintendo doesn’t throw the lawsuit at me,” he wrote, adding that he never expected the images to go viral.
The confusion led to speculation, but ultimately the images are not representative of Nintendo or Illumination’s official production. While Rosalina is almost certain to play a role in the new film given the Galaxy focus, her casting and design remain unconfirmed.
So far, the only credible leak linked to the film concerns a Jakks Pacific prototype figure of Bowser Jr., a character already known from the original games.
The Super Mario Galaxy movie will release in cinemas on April 3 2026.
