Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has announced Yakuza Kiwami 3, a remake of the 2009 title, alongside an entirely new spinoff game, Dark Ties. The reveal came during a new RGG Direct stream, marking the 20th anniversary of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series.
Both Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties will release on February 12 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 follows Kazuma Kiryu’s story as he relocates to Okinawa to run the Morning Glory orphanage. The remake introduces new cutscenes, dialogue, and side-stories expanding the original narrative. A new combat system, Ryukyu Style, inspired by Okinawan martial arts, is added, along with a life simulation mode featuring cooking, fishing, and bug-catching.
Players will also find side-stories involving the children of Morning Glory as Kiryu takes on a more domestic role. Additional features include a motorbike gang battle mode, flip-phone customisation, and new karaoke songs.
Dark Ties shifts focus to Yakuza Kiwami 3’s antagonist, Yoshitaka Mine, who becomes a playable character for the first time. Set in Kamurocho, the spinoff explores Mine’s backstory through a crime narrative described by developers as more downbeat.
Gameplay includes his boxing-inspired combat style, a mission-based mode called Kanda Damage Control, an underground fight club with survival challenges, and karaoke sequences.
In preparation for the release, Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 13 2025, followed by a double-pack for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Steam on December 8. Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will also expand to the same platforms on that date.
The studio additionally confirmed development on a new Virtua Fighter project and Stranger Than Heaven, a new crime drama, though no release dates were provided.
