KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken serious notice of gruesome incident in Rohri, Sukkur, where a landlord brutally beat a camel and broke its leg for entering his farmland to drink water.

According to Muhammad Amin, the owner of the camel, said the landlord tied the animal to a tractor and dragged it in anger, also beating it with stick on the animal’s face.

The incident came to light after a video went viral on social media, prompting the chief minister to take immediate notice. Terming the act ‘intolerable’, Shah directed SSP Sukkur to personally look into the case, arrest the perpetrators, and ensure exemplary punishment.

The injured camel was treated in Rohri under the supervision of District Council Chairman Syed Kamil Shah, who has submitted a detailed report to the Chief Minister. A veterinary team at the Rohri animal hospital provided initial care before the animal was transferred to a shelter in Karachi.

Camel’s owner, expressed gratitude for the government’s prompt action. “We are thankful to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Chairman Kamil Shah for their immediate support and efforts to save my camel,” he said.

The CM reiterated that such acts of cruelty will not be tolerated. “The culprits will face the full force of the law,” Shah said.

The brutality has also revived memories of a similar case in Sanghar last year, when a landlord allegedly chopped off a camel’s leg for straying into his fields. The camel, later named Cammie, was rescued and taken to Karachi under the care of the CDRS Benji Project for Animal Welfare.

Six suspects were arrested in connection with that incident, which drew widespread outrage. After months of treatment and rehabilitation, the animal recently stood on all four legs again with the help of a prosthetic leg.
