In light of the difficulties faced by students in flood-affected areas, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) announced on Thursday that the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2025 has been rescheduled from October 5 to October 26.
A total of 140,071 candidates have registered for the exam, which will be held nationwide through provincial universities, with an additional international testing venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Punjab leads with 50,443 candidates registered under the University of Health Sciences, Lahore, followed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with 39,964 through Khyber Medical University, Peshawar. Sindh has 33,160 candidates registered via Sukkur IBA Testing Service, while Balochistan will have 10,278 candidates under Bolan University of Medical & Health Sciences, Quetta.
Additionally, 1,146 candidates from Islamabad Capital Territory, 3,322 from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and 1,564 from Gilgit-Baltistan will take the test under Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad. Overseas, 194 candidates will appear at centers arranged through SZABMU.
PM&DC emphasised that although the exam will be conducted by federally and provincially nominated universities, it has developed a uniform syllabus and item bank to maintain fairness. Universities must adhere strictly to PM&DC standards for both exam paper setting and result declaration.
To ensure transparency and prevent malpractice, the council is coordinating with the FIA, IB, and police forces. Candidates have been advised to rely only on official PM&DC or university communications and disregard false information circulating in the media.
PM&DC President Dr Rizwan Taj urged universities to facilitate candidates and ensure smooth exam administration. He encouraged students to prepare with dedication and integrity, stressing that merit and hard work are essential for success.
The MDCAT remains a mandatory entry test for admission into medical and dental colleges across Pakistan, serving as a critical step in selecting the most qualified candidates for the healthcare profession.
