The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of petitions filed against the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Abdul Latif until today, directing the petitioners to present their arguments.
The two-member bench, comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Muhammad Faheem Wali, was hearing the writ petitions. At the outset, Barrister Gohar, counsel for one of the petitioners, informed the court that a PTI parliamentary committee meeting was underway in Islamabad, attended by the chief minister and ministers, and that he himself was required to participate. He requested the court to postpone the hearing.
Justice Syed Arshad Ali responded by remarking whether the counsel for another petitioner, Advocate Moazzam Butt, was also leaving for Islamabad. The judge observed that it would be better if the arguments began immediately, adding that once the case opened, the bench would better understand the matter.
The court suggested that Advocate Moazzam Butt, representing Abdul Latif, should start arguments, which could then continue the next day. Barrister Gohar assured the bench that he would also try to appear. Subsequently, the bench adjourned the hearing until today.
