Elon Musk has entered the ongoing debate over Twitch’s handling of political rhetoric, calling on Amazon owner Jeff Bezos to address comments made by high-profile streamer Hasan Piker.
On X, Musk reacted to a viral thread compiling several of Piker’s past remarks during live streams. The resurfaced clips showed Piker using graphic language such as, “Slice them up, slice them and f-ing dice them,” and, “Kill Rick Scott,” alongside other references to violence. The compilation ended with calls for Twitch to permanently ban him. Musk reposted the video, tagging Bezos directly: “What’s up here @JeffBezos?”
The post reignited debate over Twitch’s moderation practices. Critics accuse the Amazon-owned platform of applying its rules inconsistently by allowing Piker to remain active despite repeated controversies. Some users demanded stronger accountability, with one viral post insisting that Twitch conduct a third-party investigation into its moderation team.
Piker, who streams under the name HasanAbi, later addressed the renewed criticism. Responding directly to the accusations on X, he dismissed the thread’s framing, writing: “You are such a weirdo man.” His brief reply fueled further online debate, with supporters arguing the remarks were taken out of context while detractors pushed for disciplinary action.
Piker has also spoken publicly about the recent murder of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, saying he was horrified but framing the killing as a reflection of America’s broader issues with gun violence and inequality. He had been scheduled to debate Kirk at Dartmouth College later this month.
As of now, Bezos and Twitch have not responded to Musk’s post. The controversy underscores the increasing pressure on streaming platforms to address political extremism and the growing role of billionaires in shaping those discussions.
