In response to a spate of road accidents in recent weeks, particularly last week's tragic incident near the Cantonment Board School, Abbottabad Traffic Police have launched stringent measures to reduce road mishaps and safeguard the public.
A speeding dumper truck had struck eight children from the same family, killing three instantly and injuring five.
Under the directives of Traffic SSP Qamar Hayat Khan, the traffic authorities have introduced comprehensive measures and special arrangements to regulate vehicular movement across the city.
In the first phase, strict regulations have been imposed on the entry times of heavy vehicles into the city. Signage displaying speed limits and permitted entry hours has been erected at all heavy vehicle checkpoints. Vehicle owners and drivers have also been informed through public notices of speed restrictions and operational hours.
In the second phase, traffic teams visited schools situated on main roads, issuing detailed instructions to school administrations and van drivers regarding safe pick-up and drop-off procedures for students.
The third phase has seen stringent legal action against heavy vehicle drivers violating school-time entry bans or exceeding speed limits within the city. Several FIRs have been registered, and fines imposed across various police stations.
Additionally, action has been taken against school vans and private vehicles dropping off or picking up children outside designated parking areas, which obstruct main roads.
Authorities emphasised that the campaign would continue with zero tolerance to ensure the safety of students and the wider public on city streets.
