Reese Witherspoon is stepping back into Elle Woods’ world, but this time the spotlight is on the origins of her most iconic character. In a recent interview with E! News while promoting the latest season of The Morning Show with co-star Jennifer Aniston, Witherspoon gave fans a tantalising preview of what they can expect from the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series, titled Elle.
The new project, currently in development for Amazon Prime Video, will explore Elle Woods’ teenage years long before she walked through the doors of Harvard Law. Witherspoon described the prequel as a chance to show audiences how Elle became the ambitious, determined, and unapologetically pink-loving character who captured hearts around the world in the original 2001 film.
Speaking about the project, Witherspoon said the team is focused on staying true to Elle’s spirit while also surprising fans with fresh layers to her backstory. “People want to know where Elle came from, how she found her confidence, and what shaped her before law school,” she explained. The actress hinted at plenty of laughs, heart, and the same energy that made the first film a cult classic.
Witherspoon is serving as an executive producer on Elle, ensuring that the prequel aligns with the vision that made the franchise a global success. She also suggested that the prequel will lean into Elle’s fashion-forward personality and strong sense of justice, planting the seeds of the fearless lawyer she later becomes.
The project marks another expansion of the Legally Blonde universe, which has already spanned two feature films and a Broadway musical. Fans have long speculated about a third film in the main series, but Witherspoon made clear that the prequel is the current priority. “It feels like the right time to introduce Elle to a whole new generation,” she said.
As anticipation builds, longtime fans and newcomers alike will soon discover how Elle Woods’ story began, setting the stage for her unforgettable journey to Harvard and beyond.
