Valve has released a major SteamOS update for the Steam Deck, marking one of the most substantial patches in recent months. The September 9 client update brings over 30 improvements, many of which were previously tested in the beta channel, now available to all users.
Since its 2022 launch, Valve has consistently supported the Steam Deck with regular updates. These typically include bug fixes, performance improvements, and long-requested features. This latest patch delivers on all fronts, while also expanding support for third-party SteamOS devices like the Lenovo Legion Go S.
One of the standout additions is a new Customization tab in game properties, allowing users to assign custom-sort titles in their libraries. Library startup performance has also improved, especially for those with non-Steam games, and performance profiles now switch more quickly.
The update also fixes long-standing issues, such as problems with screenshots, avatars, game sorting, and Bluetooth failing to re-enable after use in Desktop Mode. Controller-related bugs—like duplicated inputs and incorrect prompts for devices such as 8BitDo and GameCube controllers—have also been addressed. Steam Input now supports new devices like the PDP REALMz Wireless Controller for Switch.
In Desktop Mode, Valve has added a dedicated accessibility menu featuring high-contrast settings, reduced motion options, and UI scaling. Meanwhile, Lenovo Legion Go S users running SteamOS now have full joystick LED customization, previously available only in beta.
A similar Steam client update also rolled out to PC users, adding many of the same accessibility and customization enhancements.
