The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed the Director General of the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to appear in person along with a detailed report in connection with a petition filed by a US-based Pakistani woman seeking the custody of her two minor children.
Justice Muhammad Asif issued the written order while hearing the petition of Ghulam Ghausia Akhunzada.
The petitioner stated that she married Muhammad Owais Tariq, a resident of Taxila, in January 2014. Following their marriage, her husband moved to the United States and supported her financially. The couple has two sons, eight-year-old Arham and five-year-old Haider.
According to Akhunzada, her husband took the children's passports under the pretext of performing Umrah but instead brought them to Pakistan without her consent. She added that a local court in the US has already ruled in her favour regarding the custody of the children.
She further informed the court that her husband could not be traced at his known address in Attock and was reportedly using multiple addresses in Pakistan. Despite her efforts, she said, she had been unable to locate him.
The petitioner prayed that the court direct authorities to trace her husband and ensure the custody of her children is restored to her.
The court ordered the NCCIA to conduct a search for Muhammad Owais Tariq and instructed its DG to submit a comprehensive report at the next hearing, scheduled for September 11.
