The Conjuring: Last Rites, billed as the concluding chapter in the long-running horror franchise, has sparked discussion for its poignant post-credits scene.
Rather than introducing a new spin-off or antagonist, the sequence pays tribute to the real-life paranormal investigators who inspired the series, Ed and Lorraine Warren.
After the main story closes, the credits reveal a final image of Ed Warren placed beside the infamous Conjuring mirror, one of the many artefacts tied to the couple’s reported cases.
This is followed by a montage of home videos, photographs, and archival footage, reinforcing the idea that the franchise has always drawn heavily from the Warrens’ documented investigations.
The object is positioned as a symbolic bookend to their careers, embodying the supernatural challenges they faced throughout their lives.
In a narrative twist, Annabelle’s appearance is reframed as one of the mirror’s manifestations, tying together threads from across the series.
The post-credits sequence further reveals that the mirror is identified as a “Conjuring mirror,” an artefact used in rituals to summon spirits. This provides an explanation for the franchise title, shifting its meaning from individual hauntings to the cursed object itself.
While the mirror’s prominence in the film is largely fictionalised, the real artefact reportedly remains stored in the Warrens’ Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut.
