Speculation is building over who will headline the Super Bowl halftime show in February 2026, and Taylor Swift has emerged as a leading candidate.

During an interview on NBC’s Today Show on Wednesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the ongoing rumors. When asked directly by co-host Savannah Guthrie, he praised Swift while keeping the possibility open.

“We would always love to have Taylor play,” Goodell said. “She is a special, special talent. She would be welcome at any time.”

Pressed further on whether Swift is actually in talks, Goodell suggested discussions may be underway. “It’s a maybe. It’s a maybe… I’m waiting on my friend Jay-Z to be able to help me with that one. It’s in his hands,” he added, referencing Roc Nation’s role in producing the halftime show.

Beyond the NFL’s interest, Swift’s personal connection to the league has fueled speculation. Her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has made her a regular presence around NFL coverage and significantly increased crossover attention from her fanbase.

The timing could also make sense professionally. Swift recently revealed on the New Heights podcast, hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce, that her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl will be released on Oct. 3. The record follows her historic Eras Tour, which grossed more than $2 billion from 149 shows across five continents.

If confirmed, Swift would join a prestigious list of recent halftime performers, including Kendrick Lamar, Usher, and Rihanna. For context, Lamar’s appearance was officially announced on Sept. 8, 2024, suggesting the NFL could reveal its 2026 headliner soon.

Fans and analysts alike now await an official decision, which may arrive in the coming weeks.
