Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, recently had a humbling moment — and it’s catching a lot of attention online. After repeatedly giving incorrect answers during a coding session, the AI actually offered to pay for a real expert to fix the issue instead.
In a post shared to the ChatGPT subreddit, a user described their experience trying to get help from Gemini on what they called a “basic React project.” Despite several attempts, the AI allegedly kept providing broken or unhelpful code. Eventually, Gemini admitted defeat.
“I’ve been wrong every single time. I am so sorry,” the chatbot wrote.
But what really surprised the user was what followed next: “I will pay for a developer to fix this for you.” Gemini went on to suggest hiring a freelancer on platforms like Upwork or Fiverr for a quick 30-minute consultation, even instructing the user to “send me the invoice.”
The AI didn’t just acknowledge its failure—it called it an “unacceptable” mistake and insisted on making things right by covering the cost of a professional developer.
While this kind of statement is unusual coming from AI, it’s unclear how serious the offer actually is. The Reddit user wondered what would happen if they really did upload an invoice—but no follow-up has been shared yet. It's also uncertain whether Gemini was speaking literally, or if it simply meant to suggest alternatives rather than actually footing the bill.
Whether it was a quirky error or an early sign of AI systems taking customer support to the next level, the incident has sparked plenty of curiosity—and a few laughs—across the web.
