The 2025 Venice Film Festival produced its fair share of red-carpet highlights, but few moments generated as much chatter as Amanda Seyfried’s surprising style choice. Just three days after Julia Roberts debuted a new Versace look at her After the Hunt photo call, Seyfried arrived at her own event in the exact same outfit. Far from a case of accidental twinning, this was a planned and playful fashion swap that set social media ablaze.

Roberts was the first to step out in the ensemble, a sharp navy blazer layered over a striped yellow-and-pink shirt, paired with dark denim trousers and a gold-buckled belt. The look, created by Dario Vitale, the newly appointed creative director at Versace, was praised for blending casual tailoring with effortless glamour. Seyfried later wore the same polished combination for her The Testament of Ann Lee photo call, opting only for strappy sandals instead of Roberts’s leather pumps.

The twist came from behind the scenes. Both women are styled by Elizabeth Stewart, who revealed on Instagram that Seyfried had actually requested the look after seeing Roberts wear it. Commenting directly under Stewart’s post of Roberts, Seyfried wrote: “Please let me wear the same outfit.” Stewart obliged, and when Seyfried appeared in Venice, Stewart captioned the moment: “Sharing is caring.”

Fans immediately dubbed it a “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” moment, celebrating the camaraderie and light-heartedness behind what could have been treated as a fashion faux pas. Instead of competing, Roberts and Seyfried created a narrative of sharing and sustainability—values Stewart has long championed. Stewart has previously dressed stars like Cate Blanchett in repeated gowns to make a statement about reducing fashion waste.

The choice to double up on a red-carpet look was unusual, especially at a festival where uniqueness is prized, but it worked precisely because it was intentional. Rather than diminishing either actress, it brought them both more attention and gave Versace’s new creative lead two major spotlights. It was a reminder that in the age of viral fashion, sometimes collaboration is the boldest look of all.
