Scream 8 moves forward with new writers as Scream 7 crosses $200M worldwide, setting a franchise record

The Scream franchise is continuing its momentum, with a new installment officially in development following a historic box office milestone.
According to reports, Lilla Zuckerman and Nora Zuckerman have been tapped to write the script for Scream 8, marking the next chapter in the long-running horror series.
The announcement comes as Scream 7 surpasses $200 million at the global box office, making it the first film in the franchise’s 30-year history to achieve that milestone. The film also set a new franchise record with a $97.2 million worldwide opening, signaling strong audience demand for the iconic slasher series.
Directed by Kevin Williamson—the original writer behind the Scream films—Scream 7 saw the return of franchise star Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. The film also featured a cast including Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Joel McHale, Anna Camp, and Matthew Lillard.
The Zuckerman sisters bring notable experience to the project, having previously worked on hit series such as Poker Face, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, Fringe, and Prodigal Son. Their involvement signals a fresh creative direction for the next installment.
While plot details for Scream 8 remain under wraps, the continued success of the franchise suggests that the slasher series remains a major force in the horror genre.
