Pro wrestler Stuart "Syko Stu" Smith is conscious and alert following a violent in-ring attack last Saturday, according to fellow wrestler Douglas Malo, who intervened during the incident.
Malo, speaking to TMZ Sports, said Smith is now talking and remembers most of what happened earlier in the day, though he continues to recover from serious facial injuries that, while not life-threatening, remain significant.
Smith was hospitalized immediately after the assault, which escalated quickly and could have ended far worse had Malo not stepped in. Malo recounted his own scuffle with Raja Jackson—the son of MMA fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson—who carried out the attack on Smith. Malo said he suffered minor injuries during the altercation but was more concerned about the severity of the situation.
"I'm pissed at what he did to my friend," Malo told TMZ Sports. "When I tried to pull him off and told him to calm down, he tried to double leg me. If he had gotten me down, it could’ve been the same outcome as Stu."
Jackson left the venue after the incident, but he may soon face legal consequences. As previously reported by TMZ, the LAPD has launched a criminal investigation into the attack, and there are growing calls for charges to be filed against Jackson.
Malo also addressed a separate incident involving a thrown beer can that preceded the attack, and responded to comments made by WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry, who partially blamed Smith for provoking the situation.
Despite the ordeal, fans have rallied behind Smith. A GoFundMe campaign has raised approximately $150,000 to help cover his medical expenses, including generous donations from YouTuber MrBeast ($10,000) and wrestling legend Chris Jericho ($2,500).
Smith’s recovery continues, supported by a growing wave of community support.
