Cardi B strongly denied accusations that she assaulted security guard Emani Ellis during her testimony in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday (August 26).

The case stems from a 2018 altercation at an OB/GYN office, where Ellis alleges the rapper struck her and caused emotional trauma.

The Grammy-winning rapper, who was four months pregnant at the time, insisted the confrontation was purely verbal and never turned physical. “It was a verbal altercation. She didn’t hit me. I didn’t hit her. There was no touch,” Cardi told the court. She acknowledged calling Ellis a derogatory name but firmly denied spitting, using racial slurs, or making physical contact.

According to Cardi B, the incident began when she noticed Ellis recording her as she entered the medical office. She testified that she confronted Ellis about the filming, which escalated into a heated argument. “She’s like in front of me where I can’t even really maneuver… We ended up chest to chest,” Cardi explained, adding that the argument was stressful given her pregnancy.

Ellis’s lawsuit presents a conflicting version, claiming that Cardi B struck her, scratched her face with long nails, spat on her, and mocked her. Ellis further alleges emotional distress, citing anxiety, PTSD, depression, and insomnia. She is suing for assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, and false imprisonment.

The trial is ongoing in Los Angeles County Superior Court and is expected to continue throughout the week as both sides present their arguments.
