Cameron Diaz shocked Hollywood when she stepped away from acting in 2014 at the height of her career. For years, the star of hits such as There’s Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angels and The Mask focused on her family, business ventures and publishing work. Many assumed her retirement was permanent until Jamie Foxx coaxed her back for Netflix’s Back in Action. Reports suggested that her return came with a staggering $45 million deal for two projects, making it one of the most lucrative acting comebacks in recent years.
While the money was significant, friends say the real push came from her husband Benji Madden, who encouraged her to step back into the spotlight after years of focusing on raising their children, Raddix and Cardinal. Diaz herself explained that she had been devoted to her family and supporting Madden in his own pursuits, but he urged her to seize the chance to shine once more.
Even so, Diaz has not abandoned her cautious approach to Hollywood. Insiders claim she has turned down the idea of reprising her role in a sequel to the 1997 romantic comedy My Best Friend’s Wedding, despite Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney reportedly being open to the reunion. A source told In Touch Weekly that Diaz is simply not interested, explaining that she values her family and personal life far more than the kind of relentless schedule she once endured in her twenties and thirties.
Her return to acting now appears to be carefully chosen and on her own terms. With her fortune already estimated at $140 million, Diaz has the freedom to be selective. She is slated to voice Princess Fiona again in Shrek 5 in 2026 and star in Jonah Hill’s upcoming film Outcome alongside Keanu Reeves. For fans, it means Diaz will not disappear entirely, but she is unlikely to flood cinemas with back-to-back projects.
As one insider put it, Cameron Diaz is no longer chasing Hollywood. She is rewriting her story at her own pace, balancing work with the family life she waited so long to build.
