The comedy troupe Broken Lizard has officially kicked off production on Super Troopers 3, the latest installment in the cult-favorite franchise about Vermont State Troopers and their outrageous antics.

Core members Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske are all reprising their roles, continuing a collaboration that has spanned more than two decades.

Chandrasekhar, who directed the first two films, returns as both director and co-writer, working with the Broken Lizard team on the screenplay.

Fan favorite Brian Cox will once again play Captain John O’Hagan, while Marisa Coughlan reprises her role as Ursula Hanson. The sequel also introduces new cast members, including Chace Crawford as Baker Buchanan, Nat Faxon as Captain Todd Markowski, and Andrew Dismukes.

The film is being produced in collaboration with Searchlight Pictures, which has partnered with Broken Lizard on previous projects.

Chandrasekhar expressed enthusiasm for the franchise’s return, saying Broken Lizard is eager “to help bring theatrical comedy back,” adding with a nod to the Troopers’ trademark style:

It’s mustache-growing time!” Searchlight Pictures’ president echoed the sentiment, noting that the group’s unique humor “leaves a trail of joy and laughter wherever they go.”

The first Super Troopers was released in 2001, building a strong cult following, while the crowdfunded Super Troopers 2 (2018) grossed more than $30 million worldwide.

With production now underway, Super Troopers 3 aims to build on that legacy for both longtime fans and new audiences.
