KARACHI:

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that while the green crescent flag symbolises Pakistan's independence, its white portion stands as a guarantee for the rights and freedoms of minorities. He added that a number of initial beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme were from minority communities, and that a substantial number of houses, with ownership rights, were being allocated to minority families in the 2.1 million housing project.

Further, Sharjeel stated that on Monday, a man was on a motorcycle with his daughter and son when they were hit by a dumper. Both children died on the spot while their father was seriously injured. Sharjeel confirmed that the dumper driver was arrested and his vehicle impounded. However, he expressed disapproval of the people who set alight seven dumpers, stating that their actions left a driver, who had no connection to the accident, in a coma.

The minister stated that emergency negotiations were held with transporters and dumper owners, and a written agreement was obtained.
