Medical research: KU centre wins US patent

ISLAMABAD: The National Nematological Research Centre at the University of Karachi has won a US patent. The projects conducted by the centre’s director Prof. Dr Shahina Fayyaz were aimed at exploring indigenous organisms called Entomopathogenic Nematodes (EPNs) and use them for pest management in crops, said a press release. The researchers discovered that nine of the native species of the organisms were discovered in Pakistan and are being tested at the centre.
