Loni Anderson, the iconic actress best known for her role as Jennifer Marlowe on the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati, has died at the age of 79.

According to the Associated Press, Anderson passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Los Angeles following a prolonged illness.

Her family confirmed the news through publicist Cheryl J. Kagan, stating, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother.”

Anderson rose to fame as the glamorous and sharp-witted receptionist on WKRP in Cincinnati, which aired from 1978 to 1982. The CBS comedy followed a struggling Ohio radio station’s chaotic transition to rock and roll. Anderson’s portrayal of Marlowe earned her two Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nods.

Despite often being typecast as the “buxom blonde,” Anderson brought intelligence and warmth to the role, making Jennifer Marlowe one of the show’s most beloved characters.

Beyond WKRP, Anderson starred in the 1983 comedy Stroker Ace opposite Burt Reynolds, whom she married in 1988. Their high-profile relationship ended in a contentious divorce in 1994.

She later appeared in numerous TV films, including Blown Away, Country Gold, The Lonely Guy, and A Letter to Three Wives.

Loni Anderson is survived by her husband of 17 years, Bob Flick, her daughter Deidra, son-in-law Charlie Hoffan, and her son, Quinton Anderson Reynolds.
