Emily Blunt has shared an uncomfortable experience from her acting career, revealing she once felt physically ill after filming a kissing scene with a co‑star. Speaking on The Howard Stern Show, the actress emphasised that on-set romance is not always glamorous.
Asked if she had ever wanted to “throw up” following such a scene, Blunt replied, “Absolutely, absolutely!” She clarified that while it was not extreme dislike, she had encountered moments she truly did not enjoy.
Blunt expanded on the complexities of on-screen chemistry, stating that attraction between co-stars does not always align with personal rapport.
She observed that it is possible to get along with someone off-camera yet fail to connect onscreen—a phenomenon she described as “sometimes a strange thing.”
To manage these situations, Blunt said she seeks out at least one quality she can appreciate in a co-star—such as a pleasant laugh or kindness—and chooses to focus on that element during performance.
She described on-screen chemistry as an “ethereal thing” that cannot be manufactured or forced, though she admitted she has gained experience over time: “I could have chemistry with this water bottle at this point… but it’s just easier when you have a natural rapport with someone.”
Promoting her film The Fall Guy at the time, Blunt clarified that she and co-star Ryan Gosling share a positive off-screen friendship. She praised Gosling as “a gem of a person” and expressed gratitude for their collaboration.
