Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s California neighborhood was placed under a tsunami advisory following a powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Pacific coast.
The quake, one of the strongest recorded globally in recent years, prompted tsunami warnings across several regions, including Japan, Hawaii, Alaska, and the US West Coast.
The couple’s Montecito residence in Santa Barbara County lies within the affected coastal zone, though officials have clarified that evacuations are not currently required.
Authorities have urged residents in advisory areas to avoid beaches and remain cautious near coastal waters, as wave activity could persist for hours.
This marks the second time this year that the Sussexes' Montecito estate has faced natural threats. Earlier in 2025, their area was classified as high risk during California’s wildfire season, with residents placed on standby for potential evacuations.
Harry and Meghan purchased their nine-bedroom home for $14.65 million in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties.
Property estimates now value the estate at over $29 million, reflecting significant appreciation in the high-demand coastal region.
The Pacific-wide advisory follows confirmed tsunami activity in parts of Japan and Russia’s Kuril Islands. Japan’s meteorological agency reported waves measuring up to 60 cm, with evacuation advisories issued to nearly one million people.
No major injuries or damage have been reported as of Wednesday morning.
While Montecito remains safe for now, the event underscores the ongoing seismic risks facing coastal communities along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
