Dakota and Elle Fanning will appear together on screen for the first time in The Nightingale, the film adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s best-selling novel.
TriStar Pictures confirmed that the long-anticipated release is set for February 12, 2027, with the announcement shared on the movie’s official Instagram page alongside an image of the book and the script.
The Fanning sisters, who previously played the same character at different ages in separate productions, will portray two sisters coming of age in France during World War II. The story centres on their personal and emotional struggle as they endure the hardships of German occupation.
Speaking about the project when it was first announced, Dakota and Elle said, “The Nightingale will be the first time we act on screen together. We have looked for a film to do with one another and then this gem appeared.” They described the opportunity to work together on such a deeply emotional sister story as “a dream come true.”
Directed by Michael Morris, the film is produced by Elizabeth Cantillon (The Cantillon Company), Dakota and Elle Fanning with Brittany Kahane Ward (Lewellen Pictures), and Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter (Hello Sunshine).
The film is expected to draw strong interest from fans of both the Fanning sisters and Hannah’s acclaimed novel. It also marks a significant moment in the careers of both actors as they share the screen in leading roles for the first time.
