Téa Leoni and Tim Daly are officially married. A representative for Leoni confirmed to PEOPLE that the longtime couple exchanged vows in an intimate family ceremony in New York on Saturday, July 12.

The couple met in 2014 while filming the CBS political drama Madam Secretary, where they portrayed on-screen spouses Elizabeth and Henry McCord. The series ran for six seasons, airing from September 2014 to December 2019. Their real-life romance began the same year, shortly after Leoni finalized her divorce from actor David Duchovny, to whom she was married for 17 years.

Their relationship gradually became public in mid-2014, with Leoni attending Daly’s performance of Red in Vermont over the Fourth of July weekend. By December, PEOPLE confirmed the two had quietly begun dating during the summer.

They made their red carpet debut as a couple at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April 2015 in Washington, D.C., where they were joined by journalist Bob Schieffer and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Daly jokingly told Bloomberg TV, “We’re gonna be a hot table,” referring to their notable dinner companions.

Fellow Madam Secretary actor Geoffrey Arend later told PEOPLE the cast was surprised when they first learned about the off-screen relationship, as it had been kept discreet on set. He praised the couple, saying, “Tim’s the best — they’re really good together.”

True to their private nature, Leoni and Daly chose to formalize their longtime relationship with a quiet family celebration surrounded by loved ones.
