Former President Joe Biden, 82, has issued a heartfelt statement after revealing his diagnosis with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
On Sunday, May 18, his personal office confirmed that he was recently diagnosed with grade group 5 prostate cancer, which has metastasized to the bone. The diagnosis followed a medical evaluation after Biden experienced increasing urinary symptoms.
According to the statement, a prostate nodule was discovered during a routine physical exam earlier in the week. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the office noted. Biden and his family are currently consulting with physicians to explore treatment options.
On Monday, May 19, Biden addressed the public in a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), alongside a photo with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, and their cat, Willow. “Cancer touches us all,” he wrote. “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

The diagnosis signifies a serious condition that often requires prompt and aggressive treatment. President Donald Trump also responded to the news, offering words of support. In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
