Megan Thee Stallion drew attention after defying one of the Met Gala’s most publicised rules — the strict no-phone policy — during the 2025 edition of the event in New York City.
The rapper posted an Instagram video from inside the gala and later shared a mocking SpongeBob meme aimed at critics, suggesting she was unbothered by any backlash.
The video captioned “Hottie Cam in thee MET GALA 👀😏.”, showed Megan capturing candid moments at her table with rapper Doechii and basketball star Angel Reese. The trio were seen sampling appetisers such as cornbread with caviar and vegan lox, toasting between bites.
In one clip, Megan admitted, “We’re not supposed to have our phones, but we’re doing it anyway.” She was also filmed telling guests including Serena Williams and Lupita Nyong’o that she had “snuck” her phone into the event.
The video concluded with Megan hyping Ciara’s black-and-silver LaQuan Smith gown and zooming in to show off its details.
Another clip from the event shows Megan walking through the museum alongside Tracee Ellis Ross, Doja Cat and Sha'Carri Richardson. The group is seen laughing and joking, with one voice jokingly calling out, "Put your phone away,” in apparent reference to the rule they were all openly flouting.
Following the video, Megan posted a widely used SpongeBob 'mocking' meme directed at unnamed critics of her rule-breaking.

The Met Gala, overseen by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, maintains a no-phone, no-social-media policy to preserve the exclusivity of the event.
While Megan was not alone in bending the rules — other attendees including Angela Bassett, Yara Shahidi and Halle Bailey were also seen taking photos inside — her decision to publicise the footage set her apart.
