THATTA:

The sudden cancellation of the Bahauddin Zakaria Express stop at the historic Jangshahi railway station has triggered widespread anger among the residents of Thatta and Sujawal districts. Residents, social activists, businessmen, and civil society representatives have protested the decision calling it "unjust and detrimental to local connectivity."

The Jangshahi station served as a vital link for daily commuters and provided crucial access to major cities, including Multan. Despite repeated appeals to the railways authorities, no reservation quota was allocated for Jangshahi, preventing passengers from booking tickets either online or offline, according to local residents.

As a result, travelers were compelled to purchase tickets from Karachi or Hyderabad, leading to a manufactured appearance of low revenue from the station. Critics argue that this artificial revenue shortfall was then used as a pretext to cancel the Jangshahi stop.

Local communities are now demanding that Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, Pakistan Railways CEO Aamir Baloch, Divisional Superintendent Nasir Khalili, and MNA Ayaz Shah Sherazi intervene to reinstate the Bahauddin Zakaria Express stop at Jangshahi.

They have also urged that a proper reservation quota be allocated and that Jangshahi station be fully integrated into Pakistan Railways' online and offline ticketing systems, which they argue would boost revenue.

Leaders from the Thatta and Sujawal districts also stressed the historical importance of Jangshahi railway station, calling for its preservation and upgradation.
