Spotify is currently experiencing a major outage, impacting many users across Europe and the US.
The service started facing issues early Wednesday morning, with users in the UK and other European countries reporting difficulties streaming music. By 8:45 AM ET, Spotify's official Status account on X acknowledged the problem, stating, "We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out."
The outage, which is being tracked by Downdetector, shows a significant spike in reports, particularly from the US and the UK, where over 40,000 users in the US and thousands in the UK have flagged issues. The majority of reports focus on problems with the Spotify smartphone app, though the web player is also affected. Many users are experiencing difficulties with the homepage and search functions.
Spotify responded by confirming that a fix for the search issues is being rolled out, noting that it will be a background update, requiring no action from users. Despite this, some users continue to experience problems with search functionality in the app. The issue has sparked widespread frustration, with many turning to alternative services like YouTube for their music needs in the meantime.
The cause of the outage remains unclear, with Spotify providing little additional information. The issue appears to be widespread, marking one of the biggest Spotify outages in recent memory. Spotify's team continues to monitor the situation and has pledged to keep users informed with updates.
