RAWALPINDI:

The Consumer Authority has imposed fines totalling Rs1.7 million on shopkeepers and hawkers for selling adulterated and substandard food items during the first three months of the year.

These fines were levied across various shops and businesses throughout the city for offering low-quality products in the Rawalpindi district.

In March alone, fines totalling 200,000 rupees were imposed for violations, including selling expired products, failing to issue receipts, not displaying production and expiry dates, and neglecting to mention quality standards as well as return/refund policies.

Assistant Director Muhammad Sufyan Gondal stated that Consumer Council officials routinely submit complaints to the Consumer Authority for violations of the Punjab Consumer Protection Act. Following hearings, fines are imposed on the violators to ensure consumer protection and maintain quality standards in the market.
