LAHORE:

A district and sessions court on Thursday sentenced two convicts to double life imprisonment each for murdering a man and a woman over a marriage refusal dispute and dumping their bodies in a drum.

Additional Sessions Judge Shoaib Anwar Qureshi announced the verdict at the Lahore District and Sessions Court after completion of trial proceedings.

The convicts, identified as Kulsoom Bibi and Ali Hassan, were awarded two counts of life imprisonment each for the killings of Farzana and Amanat.

According to the prosecution, the motive behind the crime was a dispute arising from refusal of marriage.

The accused allegedly murdered the victims in Sheikhupura in 2023.

Investigations revealed that after committing the crime, the convicts placed the bodies in a drum and transported it to Lahore, where it was dumped in the Nishtar Colony area in an attempt to conceal the offence.

The case was registered by Nishtar Colony Police Station under murder charges after the bodies were recovered.

During the trial, Prosecutor Shabbir Ahmed Khan presented 16 witnesses to substantiate the charges against the accused.

The court examined the evidence, including witness testimonies and investigative findings, before concluding the trial.

After finding the prosecution's case proven beyond reasonable doubt, the court handed down the sentences to both convicts.

The detailed judgment is expected to outline the court's observations regarding the motive, evidence and circumstances of the double murder.
