Jason Blum appeared in full animatronic costume at CinemaCon 2025 to debut the first trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the sequel to Blumhouse’s 2023 box office hit. Blum took the stage on Wednesday dressed in a suit reminiscent of the haunted animatronic mascots from the video game-based horror franchise.

The newly released footage teased the return of Josh Hutcherson as Mike, a security guard haunted by the mysteries of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. In one scene, Elizabeth Lail’s character warns, “They’re out there, Mike.” When asked what she means, she replies, “Everywhere.” Piper Rubio and Matthew Lillard also return, with Emma Tammi again directing the follow-up.

The original film, which adapts the popular indie horror game launched in 2014, follows a security guard who discovers that the animatronic mascots come to life with deadly intent. Despite being released on Peacock alongside its cinema debut, the film broke Blumhouse’s opening weekend records and proved the strength of the franchise.

The trailer marks the first major promotional moment for the sequel since Universal confirmed its development at CinemaCon 2024. Co-written by Tammi, Scott Cawthon, and Seth Cuddeback, the sequel promises to expand on unresolved plotlines from the first film. Tammi previously stated, “We have some loose ends that I think are going to have to come back in a sequel to be tied up.”

CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theatre owners and major studios, runs this year from 31 March to 3 April in Las Vegas. The event continues to serve as a platform for the biggest upcoming releases in the film industry.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is set for a theatrical release on Decembe 5, 2025.
