The Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman informed the National Assembly Committee on Skilled Education and Training that 30 Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) schemes are set for completion this year.
During the NA panel meeting, the HEC chairman said that 10 of these projects pertain to laptop and scholarship schemes. While some have been approved, they remain pending due to a lack of funding.
Speaking at the meeting, the Rector of NUTECH University said that his institution has sent 80 students to Japan. He said around 300 government buildings are lying vacant in Balochistan and that NUTECH has repurposed one such building to establish a new campus.
"We should focus on expanding existing university campuses rather than establishing new universities," he asserted.
The committee also discussed the issue of hostel construction at Quaid-e-Azam University without approval from CDA. A Planning and Development official said CDA member is part of the university committee, adding a formal approval will be taken from CDA.
