In view of frequent closure of roads leading to Parachinar area of K-P Kurram district, the government has started weighing the option of reviving the Parachinar Airport.
In this regard a team, comprising officials of the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) and the PIA visited the airport in the restive area so that passenger and commercial flights could be operated from there.
According to a PAA spokesperson, the visit was undertaken on the instruction of the Ministry of Defense. The eight-member team consisted of six PAA officials and two members from PIA.
The team was led by Additional Director of Operations (IIAP) Younus Luqman Qazi, while other members included Deputy APM (BKIAP) Mohsin Ahmed Ghori, and Engineer Shah Jahan.
During the visit, the team conducted a detailed assessment of the airport's infrastructure, navigational aids, and operational capabilities. A feasibility report is being prepared, which will serve as the basis for future decisions regarding the airport's restoration.
"The PAA remains committed to improving air connectivity across the country," the spokesperson said.
Sectarian violence sparked in Kurram district in November last year, resulting in the death of dozens of people.
Later, the Parachinar area suffered an acute shortage of basic necessities including food and medicines due to closure of roads leading to it by protestors.
