Country music legend Vince Gill has defended Taylor Swift against critics who take issue with her presence at Kansas City Chiefs games, where she supports her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Speaking in an Oklahoma Hall of Fame interview, Gill dismissed the controversy, calling it unnecessary.

“I just laugh when everybody gets so uptight when she goes to football games,” he said, emphasising that Swift’s minimal screen time hardly warrants backlash.

Gill, a 22-time Grammy winner, praised Swift’s charisma and influence, likening her to entertainment icons. “There’s just a handful of people that have that charisma, that thing. They own a room. Dolly Parton, she owns a room. It’s fascinating to watch. I’m a wallflower,” he said, also comparing Swift’s impact to Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson.

He also pointed out the hypocrisy in how the media and fans react to Swift’s NFL appearances. “Hell, they don’t cut away to her as much as they do Jerry Jones at the Dallas Cowboys games — what’s the big deal?” Gill argued, highlighting how team owners and executives receive similar, if not more, screen time.

To put things into perspective, he referenced a statistic from a recent Chiefs game: “Somebody said they figured it out on one of the games, and she was only on camera the entire game for 44 seconds — in a three-and-a-half-hour ballgame. You’re uptight about that? Really?”

Despite public scrutiny, Swift and Kelce continue to focus on their relationship. Following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss, the couple was spotted in Park City, Utah, and later dining at Del Frisco’s Grille in New York City.

Gill wrapped up his comments by reminding critics that Swift’s attendance is simply about supporting someone she cares for. “A woman liking a man and going to a game is all it is,” he said.
