
Donatella Versace is stepping down from her role as Creative Director of the iconic fashion brand Versace after nearly three decades.
The 69-year-old, who has led the brand since the tragic murder of her brother, Gianni Versace, in 1997, will transition into the role of Chief Brand Ambassador.In a statement shared on Versace’s Instagram on March 13, Donatella expressed her excitement about passing the torch to the next generation of designers. She announced that Dario Vitale, a Naples-born designer previously with Miu Miu, would take over as Creative Director. Donatella highlighted her passion for nurturing new talent, stating, “Championing the next generation of designers has always been important to me.”
Reflecting on her legacy, Donatella thanked her design team and Versace employees, noting, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to carry on my brother Gianni’s legacy.” She also expressed her continued commitment to the brand, emphasizing that Versace is "in my DNA and always in my heart."
Dario Vitale, who had been with Miu Miu since 2010, takes over at Versace following a significant period of growth at Miu Miu. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and his admiration for Donatella’s work. In a statement, he described Versace as a brand with “a unique heritage” and promised to contribute to its future success.
