Kyle Clifford, a 26-year-old former soldier, has been found guilty of raping his ex-girlfriend, Louise Hunt, before murdering her, her sister Hannah, and their mother Carol Hunt at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on July 9, 2024.
Less than 24 hours before the attack, Clifford searched for misogynistic podcasts and reportedly watched videos of controversial influencer Andrew Tate. Prosecutors argued that his interest in violent misogyny influenced his actions. However, the judge ruled that the jury could not be presented with this information, deeming it too prejudicial.
The court heard that Clifford, enraged by Louise ending their 18-month relationship, plotted his attack while searching for weapons online. He had also been involved in multiple workplace relationships and had a history of aggression. Prosecutors highlighted his disturbing internet activity, which included violent pornography.
Clifford, who previously admitted to the triple murder, denied rape but was convicted after a four-day trial. The Hunt family, including BBC commentator John Hunt, have been left devastated by the crime.
The case has renewed concerns about the influence of misogynistic content online, with four British women suing Tate calling for his removal from social media. Authorities continue to examine the role of extremist ideologies
