The Sindh government has announced the launch of a new initiative to provide 500,000 solar systems to the province, with the scheme set to begin later this year.
The announcement was made by the Provincial Energy Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, during the inauguration of an electricity supply event in Abdullah Rind Goth, Manghopir Town.
Shah, along with other local officials, including People's Party National Assembly member Shahida Rehmani and Manghopir Town Chairman Nawaz Ali Brohi, attended the event where over 450 households in Abdullah Rind Goth received electricity for the first time, supplied by K-Electric.
In his speech, the minister highlighted the importance of ensuring that all areas of the province have access to essential services, particularly electricity. He shared that the provincial government's efforts are in line with the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, which prioritises electricity access for everyone.
He also revealed that the distribution of 2 lakh solar systems has already started, and the full-scale distribution of 500,000 solar systems will begin later this year.
Sindh minister Nasir Shah further mentioned that solar systems would be provided to areas that lack grid electricity. Additionally, a solar park is being developed, and there are plans to offer technical training to local youth, providing them with employment opportunities in the energy sector.
The minister also emphasised the government's efforts to regularise villages and ensure that property rights are granted to women.
He assured that while industries are important, providing electricity to all households remains the top priority, marking a new phase of development and progress for the region.
