ISLAMABAD:

The government of Sindh outlined its future development objectives and sought the World Bank Group's (WBG) assistance in securing timely approvals for key projects during a high-level meeting in Islamabad.

The discussion, attended by Sindh chief minister and senior provincial officials, focused on accelerating infrastructure, urban development, and flood recovery efforts.

The Sindh government emphasised the critical role of the World Bank in supporting initiatives aimed at improving irrigation, transport, education and social protection across the province. Officials stressed the need for expedited approvals to ensure swift implementation of projects that will drive economic growth and enhance the quality of life for residents.

The World Bank delegation, led by Abdulhak Bedjaoui, reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Sindh, acknowledging the province's progress in development and disaster resilience. The meeting concluded with both sides expressing a strong commitment to further strengthening their long-standing partnership.

Sindh chief minister welcomed the high-level delegation from the World Bank at a reception at Sindh House, Islamabad. The 17-member delegation included eight senior executive directors of the World Bank Group from various regions. Representing the Sindh government, the chief minister was accompanied by Sindh chief secretary, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and other senior ministers.

In his address, the chief minister expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its long-standing collaboration with Sindh in achieving its development objectives. He highlighted the World Bank's support since the early 2000s in critical sectors such as irrigation, road infrastructure, agriculture, education and budgetary assistance.
