Fans of Christopher Nolan and Greek mythology are abuzz as Universal Pictures shares a stunning first image of Matt Damon in full battle armor, embodying the legendary Odysseus. The image was revealed in an X post, reiterating the film’s official release date.

First announced in late 2024, The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer’s iconic 8th-century BCE poem, one of the most foundational works of Western literature. The story follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he embarks on a perilous 10-year journey home following the Trojan War. Along the way, he faces formidable obstacles, including the Cyclops Polyphemus, the sorceress Circe, the deadly Sirens, and the vengeful sea god Poseidon.

Nolan, known for his intricate narratives and grand-scale filmmaking, is expected to reimagine the classic tale with his signature cinematic style.

The Odyssey boasts an all-star ensemble cast alongside Matt Damon, including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee.

With Christopher Nolan at the helm, The Odyssey is poised to be one of the most ambitious cinematic adaptations of Greek mythology in Hollywood history.
