Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his strong belief that China’s growth is beneficial for the region and should not be feared.
Speaking in an interview with Chinese state broadcasters, Zardari highlighted that China has never acted as an imperial power, instead choosing a policy of non-intervention in other countries’ affairs, Express News reported.
Zardari reiterated the strong, long-standing friendship between Pakistan and China, noting that the relationship between the two countries is not just for good times but a "timeless" bond.
"We, as neighbours, will continue to stand together," Zardari said, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to benefiting from China’s growth, particularly in areas such as agriculture and infrastructure.
He commended Chinese President Xi Jinping’s leadership, noting that under his guidance, China has made significant progress in various sectors, including space and agriculture.
"China’s development is a welcome sight for the world, and it benefits the region," said Zardari. He also mentioned that China’s technological advancements, especially in areas like irrigation and environmental management, could aid Pakistan's growth.
Zardari highlighted China’s potential to help Pakistan’s agricultural sector, noting that Pakistan’s yields per acre are currently lower than China’s.
"We are working on special industrial parks for Chinese investments, and we hope to benefit from China’s expertise in various sectors," he added.
President Zardari also praised China’s space program, mentioning that Pakistan is collaborating with China to enhance its capabilities in the space sector.
"We are focused on ensuring Pakistan’s stability, and our relationship with China remains our priority," he stated.
President Asif Ali Zardari’s five-day visit to China last week reaffirmed the enduring strength of Islamabad and Beijing’s "ironclad" relationship to detractors. He put it best himself at the start of talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, “Pakistan and China will always be friends, all-weather friends.”
