The White House found itself at the center of social media ridicule after issuing an official statement with a glaring misspelling. The press release, which referenced President Donald Trump’s post on Truth Social about sanctions, mistakenly referred to the South American nation of Colombia as "Columbia," the name of the New York-based university.

The statement read: "ICYMI President Donald J. Trump's TRUTH on Columbia sanctions." The error quickly went viral, prompting a wave of mockery and criticism from journalists, political commentators, and internet users alike.

Journalist Aaron Rupar quipped, "I’m more of a North Face guy but this seems a bit extreme," while Republicans against Trump tweeted, "Trump’s White House misspelled ‘Colombia’ as ‘Columbia’…confusing the country with the University in an official announcement," accompanied by a clown emoji.

Jeff Stein, White House economics reporter for 'The Washington Post', added to the humor, saying, "I know Barron is going to NYU but it seems like a little much."

Former Trump campaign aide A.J. Delgado didn’t hold back either, stating, "Did a WHITE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE really misspell Colombia? I remember how much I had to proofread and correct BASIC mistakes in drafts by others on the 2016 Campaign but this is... wow." She concluded, "Only the dumbest of the dumb work in this White House."

Popular internet personality Three Year Letterman simply said, "I can't top this," while a purported Trump lie tracker pointed out, "Columbia is a university in New York City. Colombia is the country Donald Trump threatened today. But talk to us about how competence is back in the White House."

DNC delegate Christopher Hale also weighed in, targeting White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt: "White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who recently disclosed over $300,000 in unpaid campaign debts — including approximately $200,000 from illegal contributions — can’t spell Colombia."

The blunder comes amid a tense political climate, with Trump’s administration recently imposing tariffs on an ally, sparking fears of a potential trade war. However, the focus quickly shifted to the spelling error, which has become the latest example of the administration’s critics highlighting perceived incompetence.

As the internet continues to buzz with reactions, the White House has yet to issue a correction or comment on the misspelling.
