Dave Franco is embracing the buzz around comparisons to Luigi Mangione.
While promoting his new horror film Together at the Sundance Film Festival, Franco admitted that the reactions to his resemblance to Mangione have been overwhelming.
“I’ve never received more texts in my life about anything,” Franco said, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter. His co-star and real-life partner Alison Brie chimed in, jokingly asking, “Anyone? Do you mean everyone?” Franco added, “Anyone who has my number has reached out about it.”
Luigi Mangione gained notoriety in December 2024 after being implicated in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in midtown Manhattan. Following a nationwide manhunt, Mangione was arrested and charged with murder. While Mangione awaits his next court appearance, social media users have humorously nominated Franco as the perfect actor to portray him in a potential biopic.
“No official offers,” Brie quipped when asked about the possibility of Franco taking on the role. Although no scripted film has been announced, multiple documentary projects, including one from Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, are in production.
Franco’s Sundance project Together explores themes of intimacy and individuality as a couple (Franco and Brie) face a supernatural threat after moving to the countryside. Brie highlighted the relatable nature of playing an onscreen couple with her husband, saying, “Couples who are together for a long time have their own language, but what happens when you lose your individuality?”
Franco also shared the challenges of filming, recalling the need for high energy throughout long shoot days. “There were mornings I didn’t know how I was going to do it,” he said, “but once you get into it, it feels like you’re getting away with something.”
