Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has extended an invitation to individuals recently pardoned by former President Donald Trump for their involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot, offering them a guided tour of the Capitol Building.
Boebert made the announcement on Tuesday outside a Washington D.C. jail, where she claimed several of the pardoned rioters were still being held unjustly after Trump’s executive order on Inauguration Day.
Boebert voiced strong support for Trump's decision to pardon nearly 1,500 individuals who participated in the 2021 Capitol attack. She pledged to be the first member of Congress to offer them a tour of the Capitol, despite the violent events of that day. The rioters, who stormed the Capitol following Trump’s claims of a "stolen" 2020 election, resulted in assaults on over 140 police officers and extensive damage to the historic building.
While Boebert’s comments are expected to spark mixed reactions among her fellow lawmakers, many of whom feared for their lives during the attack, she insists the pardoned rioters had already "paid too much time" and should never have been incarcerated. Boebert firmly believes they should never have been locked up in the first place.
