Taran Killam has stepped down from his role in the off-Broadway production of 'Urinetown' after his home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed in the recent devastating Los Angeles fires.
On Friday, the New York City Center issued a statement to ticket holders, explaining that the 42-year-old actor would no longer be able to participate in the production due to personal circumstances.
The statement, which was shared on Reddit, read: “Unfortunately, Taran Killam, previously announced to play the role of Lockstock, has been impacted by the devastating fires in Los Angeles and is no longer able to participate in the production.” According to People, actor Greg Hildreth has been cast as Officer Lockstock, taking over from Killam. Hildreth is known for his roles in 'Maestros', 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', and 'Radium Girls' and has received a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.
Killam, who recently announced his role in the comedy musical via Instagram, was expected to star in the production, which will run at the New York City Center from February 5 to February 16, 2025. Other actors in the cast include Tiffany Mann, Daniel Quadrino, Geena Quintos, and Rainn Wilson.
Just over a week before stepping down from the production, Killam and his wife, actress Cobie Smulders, lost their $5.6 million home to the Palisades Fire. The couple had owned the property since 2017 and spent over a year modernizing it. Despite their personal loss, Killam and Smulders have been actively supporting fellow fire victims by sharing helpful resources on social media.
